One Life’s Measure

If the measure of a life
     is gauged by the moments
that steal our breath,
     then my life has a full measure

What stutters my breath;
     what extent does my life encompass?

Capturing that elusive word
     when writing, gazing upon
the endless dance of stars
     painted across a midnight sky,

the melancholy susurration
     of wind in the trees, a pas de deux
of wood and flame, tracing
     the arch of your brow, savoring
your exhalation upon my nape

and the arpeggio of our love
     and life together.

New Blog: The Foolish and the Dead

Over the past few years, I've noticed many changes in our country and in the world about which I have definite opinions.  There seems to be rampant misinformation and outright falsehoods being put forth as fact instead of opinion, blatant disregard for civil rights, a regression in attitudes as well as many things that just plain piss me off.  With that in mind, I've begun a new blog so that I have a separate location for my commentaries, opinions, and even some rants.  

The new blog is called The Foolish and the Dead, http://thefoolishandthedead.blogspot.com/.  I currently have an introduction post up and will soon have my first topic posting.

I hope you will stop by my new blog, read and let me know your opinion.  This location will continue to be my journal of creative writing.

Ten Days

Ten days ago everything was perfect.  In ten minutes, she would be gone.  In ten hours, the authorities would have the letter – but what could I say now to get her back in the car. 

So here I am, ten miles from nowhere, sitting alongside the I-10 indicator sign, in a broken down convertible in 100 degree weather watching dust devils dance around her boot heels as she stalks down the gravel road.  Nothing ahead and nothing behind but sun-washed blue sky and fields that one spark would set ablaze.   How did I get from perfect to here?   Beats the hell out of me.

Ten days ago we were happy and looking forward to the future.  Both of us were working, saving our money and looking forward to the fall semester of college.   It was just supposed to be a road trip.  You know, let off a little steam, kick up our heels, cut loose a little before going back to school.  But somehow, it all went to hell.   

I guess I should begin my story at the beginning . . .
